Beginnings
Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar (now part of Tanzania). He spent much of his childhood in India before moving to England in his late teens. Mercury attended Ealing Art College, where he developed a keen interest in music and performance. He joined several bands before forming Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist John Deacon.
